The Controlled Test is taken at the end of the course, on a topic chosen and assessed by the Examination Board. The following topics have been set in the past:

Television Documentary
 Comedy Films
The Promotion and Marketing of Popular Music
Local/Community Radio

For the coursework component, pupils are required to submit four assignments, including practical work, evaluation and supporting accounts.
