The aim of the Mathematics Department is to equip pupils with the ability to understand and apply Mathematics intelligently and confidently in their adult lives. Years 7 to 9The Mathematics syllabus meets the requirements of the National Curriculum, including the recent new specifications. Pupils are grouped into two sets per year group, with a maximum of sixteen pupils per group. In Years 7 to 9 pupils cover topics such as Algebra, Data Handling, Geometry, Graphs, Number, Shape and Space and Transformations.GCSE MathsExamination Board: EdExcelIn Years 10 to 11, pupils benefit from individual attention and small teaching groups. We expand on the topics covered in Years 7 to 9 and also cover areas such as Circle Geometry and Trigonometry. The GCSE course is broken down into two pieces of Coursework which make up 10% of the final GCSE grade. In 2004, 91% of pupils achieved grades A* to C. EventsPupils are encouraged to participate in the annual UKMT Junior and Intermediate Maths Challenges. |
