The History department aims to promote the understanding of historical events in both a national and international context. The subject is studied by all pupils until the end of Year 9 and is taken as an option subject at GCSE level. Years 7 to 9Several core textbooks are used at different stages to deliver the curriculum. These are supplemented by teacher generated notes, handouts and video material where appropriate. By the end of Year 9, pupils will have a knowledge and understanding of the main events, personalities and developments from the Middle Ages up to and including the Twentieth Century.GCSE HistoryExamination Board: AQA (Modern World Specification)Assessment is divided up into a written terminal examination and coursework worth 25% of the final grade. For Paper 1 Section A, the content is international and provides an outline study of many events of the Twentieth Century. Section B provides an in depth study of World War I from a British perspective. Paper 2 comprises of a study of contrasting governments in depth and provides a national element to the specification. The coursework requirements involve the study of two topics with a world perspective. |
